\"Kombucha<\/a><\/p>\n

My New Year\u2019s resolution is to be more tolerant.\u00a0 I am going to celebrate diversity, even if it makes me vomit.\u00a0 Case in point, my sister.\u00a0 I was recently helping her move some stuff out of her car when I came across a bottle filled with yellow liquid.\u00a0 My first reaction: My sister has turned into one of those urine drinkers.\u00a0 You have to know my sister.\u00a0 She puts the \u201calt\u201d in the term alternative medicine.\u00a0 I confronted her with the bottle, and she gave me some cover story about it being a concoction called Kombucha.\u00a0 It\u2019s supposed to be good for your digestive track.\u00a0 I told her it was okay to admit she was drinking her own urine.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t judge her.\u00a0 I was going to celebrate diversity this year. \u00a0I told her that I might even put one of those annoying bumper stickers on my car.\u00a0 But she stuck to her story.<\/p>\n

I popped out my iPhone and asked Siri to give me the scoop on urine drinkers.\u00a0 According to Wikipedia, urine may be the best thing since the discovery of aloe vera.\u00a0 We should be rubbing a little behind our ears each morning.\u00a0 Urine drinking has a bunch of fancy names.\u00a0\u00a0 (Let\u2019s face it.\u00a0 This is a tough marketing gig.\u00a0 You\u2019d better have a compelling name to cajole some poor sap into tipping back a glass of this golden elixir). They call it Urine Therapy, Urotherapy, Uropathy<\/i>, or my favorite, Unrinotherapy<\/i>.\u00a0 (It also has an old fashioned name, which I am hesitant to mention because it might seem like I\u2019m being intolerant – Human Waste<\/i>.)\u00a0 People use it for both medical and cosmetic purposes, by drinking it and massaging it into their skin.\u00a0 The pleasant odor is a bonus.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to wonder what genius decided to harness The Power of Urine.<\/p>\n

As a non-urine drinker, I have a number of questions.\u00a0 For example, how is it served? Hot like tea?\u00a0 Cold?\u00a0 Maybe over ice?\u00a0 Is it appropriate to doctor it up a little with sugar or perhaps a sprig of mint?\u00a0 What\u2019s the lunch room etiquette?\u00a0 Is it okay to pour up a frothy glass in front of coworkers?\u00a0 Is it ever appropriate to offer a glass of your \u201chomemade\u201d others?\u00a0 Someone really needs to write a book on this.\u00a0 They can titled it Urine Drinking Does and Don\u2019ts<\/i>.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m surprised we haven\u2019t heard from the whole recycle-reuse-renew crowd on this.\u00a0 Where\u2019s Al Gore?\u00a0 You\u2019d think they\u2019d be jumping all over it like ticks on hound dog.<\/p>\n

As for me, I am fully committed to celebrating our differences and keeping an open mind no matter how disgusting the idea may be.\u00a0 The mere idea sickens me.\u00a0 It makes me want to vomit my guts out.\u00a0 But hey, this is the new millennium.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be a hater.\u00a0 Keep an open mind, and celebrate these extremely uncomfortable differences.<\/p>\n

As for my sister\u2019s suspiciously yellow \u201cKombucha,\u201d I only have one question for her: Do you drink that hot or cold?<\/p>\n
