Iowa\nrecently had a caucus, and now Nevada is getting ready to have one.  I\u2019m not exactly sure what a caucus is, but I\nthink it might be what got Harvey Weinstein into all that trouble.  I\u2019ve been told that it\u2019s when strangers get\ntogether somewhere like a school gym, or maybe in Weinstein\u2019s case, a steam\nroom.  Once assembled, there\u2019s a lot of\naggressive stating of personal preference and demanding that other people\nchange their position.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thankfully,\nI live in Oregon.  Oregon is a \u201cmotor voter\u201d\nstate.  The state mails EVERYBODY a\nballot.  You get mailed a ballot; your\nspouse gets mailed a ballot.  Your Uncle\nIgor, visiting from the Czech Republic, gets a ballot.  (It\u2019s the law.)  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result,\nwe don\u2019t have to worry about Harry Weinstein trying to adjust our\nposition.  We just mail back the\nballots.  So essentially, the first\nperson to the mailbox gets to vote five or six times.  (Just kidding \u2013 That would be a felony!)  In all seriousness, Oregonians rarely<\/em>\nvote more than two or three times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Humorous Oregon\n\u201cvote-by-mail\u201d historical note: In the last election, a clerk named Gloria in\nthe mailroom of a large retirement home single-handedly decided the governor\u2019s\nrace.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wish all\nthe citizens of Nevada good luck this week. \nSadly, as a non-Oregonian, your vote will only count once, but do the\nbest you can with it.  If you don\u2019t mind\nsome advice from a friendly Oregonian, keep in mind that I\u2019m just spit-balling\nhere, you might consider taking ventriloquist lessons.  I don\u2019t know what types of security measures\nNevada uses in its caucuses, but you might get to vote twice that way.  I hear this technique was extremely effective\nin the Iowa caucus \u2013 especially with people visiting from out of state.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least those of us outside of New Hampshire don\u2019t have to wait up until midnight to vote.\u00a0 New Hampshire State Motto: \u201cThe exhausted voter state!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I have\nno idea what the folks in Guam and the US Virgin Islands do.  Do they vote? \nI\u2019m pretty sure they\u2019re US citizens. \nRight?  Well, whatever they are,\nat least they\u2019ve got that sunny weather. \nI\u2019d trade them that for my three Oregon votes in a heartbeat.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, I need\nto wrap this up.  My Uncle Igor is\ncalling me from the back room.  He says\nhe needs help filling out his ballot.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n
