When it\ncomes to volunteering for important acts of charity, just remember one\nthing.  It\u2019s not important who gets the\ncredit, as long as I get some of the credit. \nAnd when it comes to helping meet the financial needs of those who are struggling,\nit isn\u2019t important who steps forward to meet those needs, as long as it isn\u2019t\nme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Settle down,\nfolks!  Don\u2019t get your panties in a\nbunch.  I\u2019m just kidding!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing\nmakes me feel more satisfied than when I come across some poor soul who is in\ndesperate need of assistance, and somebody else meets that need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just kidding\nagain!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact,\nabout this time of year, I find myself breaking my rule against giving money to\npanhandlers.  Their lives have been ravaged\nby drugs and alcohol.  Their only hope is\nthat they will be able find a path to sobriety and begin to put their lives\nback in order.  But it\u2019s the\nholidays.  It\u2019s freezing out there.  I figure they could use a drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I\u2019m\nabout to breach a very sensitive subject. \nSo, if you are in any way<\/em> sensitive \u2013 if you cried at the end of\nFrozen \u00ad\u2013 if you make it a habit to send get well cards to people who aren\u2019t\neven in the hospital, stop reading this IMMEDIATELY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You know those\nSalvation Army bell ringers stationed at every retail business in the\ncontinental United States and the Territory of Guam?  They need to follow my advice.  If they do, their donations (or \u201ctake,\u201d so to\nspeak) will increase three-fold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here it is \u2013\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please,\nplease, please stop ringing those bells like you\u2019re trying to shake a crawdad off\nthe end of your finger.  Are you getting\npaid by the ring?  Chillax! Slow your\nroll!  Do this \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Give the\nbell a little ring.  Pause a few beats,\nand then give it another gentle ring. \nRight now, it sounds like you\u2019re trying to call your cattle back down from\nthe mountains.  I\u2019ve seriously been\nthinking of taking ear plugs the next time I go shopping.  \n\nI\u2019m really hoping the Salvation Army somehow hears\nmy message, and in their great wisdom, actually implements my new, improved\nbell-ringing policy.  If they do, I hope\nthat they\u2019ll remember that it\u2019s not important who gets the credit, as long as I\nget some of the credit.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
